• 7G05 - Bart The General - season 1

 The picture taken after the victory of Bart's army over Nelson in which a boy with a sailor hat kisses Lisa is a reference to the famous photograph taken by Alfred Eisenstaedt, a photographer for LIFE Magazine, on Time Square on August 15 1945, also called V-J Day, the day of the victory of the American army over the Japanese, in which photograph a sailor grabs a random girl and kisses her to express his joy.

• 7F14 - Bart's Dog Gets an F - season 2
The third design embroidered on the Bouvier family quilt is an homage to the photograph Death of a Loyalist Soldier by Robert Capa (1936) taken during the spanish civil war.

• 7F19 - Lisa's Substiture - season 2
The picture on the newspaper cover following Martin's election at the head of the class in which we can read "Simpson defeats Prince" is a parody of the photograph taken by Byron Rollins on November 4, 1948 that shows Harry Truman holding a newspaper that reads "Dewey defeats Truman" . The Chicago Daily Tribune had printed this title before the result of the presidential elections of 1948 but unlike their pronostics it's Truman who won the elections.

• 7F20 - The War of the Simpsons - season 2
 The picture of General Sherman , the giant catfish, is a parody of the famous fake photograph of the legendary Loch Ness monster.

• 8F09 - Burns verkaufen der kraftwerk - season 3
 Burns gives Smithers a picture of him shaking Elvis Presley's hand. This is a reference to the photograph of the handshake between president Richard Nixon and Elvis on December 21, 1970 at the occasion of a meeting in which Elvis asked the president to be made a Federal Agent at Large in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs.

• 8F17 - Dog of Death - season 3
 One of the scenes showed to Santa's Little Helper during the Clockwork Orange parody shows a man lifting a dog by the ears. This is a reference to a photograph taken by Cecil Stoughton on April 27, 1964 in which the president Lyndon Johnson is lifting his Beagle the same way.

Another scene shows the Hindenburg disaster, an accident that occured on May 6, 1937 in Manchester, New Jersey when the Hindenburg, a German zeppelin filled with hydrogen caught fire, killing 36 passengers.

• 9F02 - Lisa the Beauty Queen - season 4
The pose Bart takes when he shows Lisa how to walk with high heels is a reference to the famous pose of the actress and singer Betty Grable in bathing suit photographed in 1943 by Frank Powolny that made her the number one pinup girl for American soldiers during World War II.

The scene when Barney take over the controls of the Duff blimp and hits a pylon, causing a fire, is a reference to the Hindenburg disaster (see Dog of death above)

When Amber is struck by lightning, Lisa succeeds her in the role of Little Miss Springfield and takes an oath with her left hand on a bible while raising her right hand. This is a reference to Lyndon B. Johnson being sworn in aboard Air Force One by Federal Judge Sarah T. Hughes, following the assassination of John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963 in Dallas.
Notice that Marge is wearing the same pink dress as the one of Jacqueline Kennedy, JFK's wife who's standing alongside Lyndon Johnson on the picture.

• 9F05 - Marge Gets a Job - season 4
In his office, Mr Burns has a picture of him shaking Elvis' hand. A reference to the meeting between Elvis and Nixon (see Burns verkaufen der kraftwerk).

• 9F10 - Marge vs. the Monorail - season 4
At the inauguration of the monorail we can see a painting of the Hindenburg disaster hanging on a wall (see Dog of Death).

• 1F01 - Rosebud - season 5
 Among the pictures screened during Mr Burns' birthday party there is a reference to the US Marines raising the American flag at the top of Mt Suribachi, the symbol of their victory against the Japanese during the battle of Iwo Jima during World War II on February 23, 1945. • 2F13 - Bart Against Australia - season 6
The scene of the Simpsons leaving Australia by helicopter is a reference to the photo of the evacuation of the American in Saigon on April 30, 1975, the day of the capture of the South Vietnamese capital of Saigon by the Vietnam People's Army. The photo shows South Vietnamese civilians and Americans scrambling to board a CIA Air America helicopter (photo Hubert Van Es).

• 3F06 - Mother Simpson - season 7
The shot of Burns with his head popping out of a tank is a reference to the photo of Michael Dukakis in 1988 during his campaign for the presidential elections. Dukakis, the democratic presidential nominee in 1988 against George Bush, wanted to take this photo to show the country he could make a good commander in chief after being criticized during the campaign for a softness on defense issues.

• 3F07 - Marge Be Not Proud - season 7
The shot of Milhouse playing a video game in the dark sitting in a chair in front of the TV is a parody of the "blown away guy", an advertisement for the Maxell audio cassettes at the ned of the 70's in which a man is blown back by the sound from a speaker. (photo by Stephen Steigman)

• 4F12 - The Itchy & Scratchy & Poochie Show - season 8
› Before the first episode of Itchy & Scratchy in which Poochie appears, Krusty says : "Once in a great while, we are privileged to experience a television event so extraordinary, it becomes part of our shared heritage. 1969 : Man walks on the moon." and a picture of Neil Armstrong on the moon appears in the background.

• CABF12 - New Kids on the Blecch- season 12
In Party Posse's first music video, the boys raise a tetherball pole looking like the American GIs during the battle of Iwo Jima (see Rosebud).

• DABF04 - Half Decent Proposal - season 13
 In Channel 6 news, a parody of the picture of the Iwo Jima victory (see Rosebud) with a $1 bill instead of the american flag is used in the background.

• DABF18 - Large Marge - season 14
 One more reference to the Iwo Jima photo (see Rosebud) when the veterans set the flag in front of the school upright again.

• EABF03 - The Dad Who Knew Too Little - season 14
The couch gag of this episode (reused in Old Yeller Belly ) is a reference to the photo Lunch atop a skyscraper taken in 1932 by Charles C. Ebbets. This picture represents 11 construction workers lunching on a crossbeam during the construction of the Rockfeller Center in New York.

• EABF09 - Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington - season 14
In Krusty's election campaign video clip, when he says he was there when America needed him, we can see famous historical photographs in which the original faces were replaced by Krusty's.
 Neil Armstrong, the first man on the moon on July 21, 1969.

 The victory of the battle of Iwo Jima (see Rosebud).

FABF03 - Marge vs. Singles, Seniors, Childless Couples and Teens, and Gays - season 15
When the adults sack everything in relation with the kids world, the children powerlessly witness these scenes of destruction. The shot of Milhouse about to cry is a référence to a photo taken June 14, 1940 in which a French man weeps as the Nazis march into Paris.

• GABF06 - Goo Goo Gai Pan - season 16
When Mrs Wu comes to the Tiananmen Square in a tank to take Selma's baby back, Selma stands still before the tank, a reference to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 (see Mr. Spritz Goes to Washington).

• HABF21 - G.I. (Annoyed Grunt) - season 18
When Homer talks about what the US army does to the prisoners, Cletus show him a Christmas card in which some men are stacked naked in a pile with a girl by their side posing proudly. This picture is a reference to the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse in 2003 and 2004 during the war in Iraq. The acts of humiliation and torture were committed, among others, by the soldier Charles Graner and his fiancée Lynndie England who also pose proudly with their thumbs up in their pics.
